Job Description:
The Electronic Technician within the Information Technology
department is primarily responsible for the installation,
diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, and removal of electrical
systems on the transit fleet. This includes but is not limited to
radio communication systems, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems,
Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) equipment, electronic fare boxes,
mobile data terminals, mobile surveillance systems, revenue
collection equipment, and all associated peripherals, support
equipment, antennas, and more. TARTA has recently embarked on a
transformational journey with the passage of Issue 12 in 2021. This
local sales tax levy has significantly increased the local
investment into the transit authority and has also expanded its
service area to all of Lucas County and the City of Rossford in
Wood County. In response to the local community’s renewed focus and
support of TARTA, the Board adopted TARTA Next, a ten-year plan to
increase services, invest in capital assets such as new mobility
hubs and a zero-emissions bus fleet, and to improve customer
experience through investments in technology, bus shelters and
signage, and customer outreach. This transformation is well
underway and powered by a dedicated team of professionals in each
department from the leadership team to every front-line team
member. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Install, diagnose,
troubleshoot, repair, and remove electrical systems on the transit
fleet. Work with various electronic equipment including radio
communication systems, CAD systems, AVL equipment, cellular
routers, electronic fare boxes, mobile data terminals, mobile
surveillance systems, and revenue collection equipment. Essential
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in diagnosing and
troubleshooting a wide range of electronic systems commonly found
in transit fleets, including radio communication systems, CAD
systems, AVL equipment, electronic fare boxes, mobile data
terminals, mobile surveillance systems, and revenue collection
equipment. Strong understanding of electrical schematics and the
ability to interpret them accurately to facilitate system diagnosis
and repair. Knowledge and experience with diagnostic equipment such
as digital and analog multimeter. Proficient in the use of common
hand tools and basic power tools. Communicate with vendors when
troubleshooting and RMA products. Familiarity with the function and
operation of logic boards and other electronic components used in
transit fleet systems. Ability to effectively communicate technical
information and recommendations to team members and stakeholders
with varying levels of technical expertise. Detail-oriented
approach to work with a focus on accuracy and precision,
particularly when performing system installations and repairs.
Capacity to adapt quickly to new technologies, equipment, and
procedures relevant to the electronic systems used in transit fleet
operations. Proficiency in documenting engineering activities,
including repairs, installations, and system configurations, to
maintain accurate records and facilitate future maintenance and
troubleshooting efforts. Minimum Qualifications A combination of
education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the
position. Education and Experience Associate degree in Electronics
or related field, preferred. 1 – 2 years of experience in basic
electrical system installation/diagnosis. Special Conditions The

Electronic Technician role primarily involves working in transit
fleet facilities and vehicles, which may include exposure to
varying environmental conditions such as temperature fluctuations
and vehicle noise. The technician may also need to work outdoors
occasionally, particularly when installing or repairing electronic
systems on transit vehicles. Additionally, the technician may
encounter confined spaces and elevated platforms while performing
installations and maintenance tasks. The job may require occasional
travel to different transit fleet locations for on-site repairs and
installations. The technician should be prepared to work near
electrical equipment and be vigilant about observing safety
protocols to minimize the risk of electrical hazards. Physical
Effort Required The Electronic Technician position requires
frequent sitting (2.5 to 5.5 hours daily) and occasional standing
(2.5 to 5.5 hours daily). Occasional walking (0.25 to 2.5 hours
daily) is necessary. Frequently lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs (2.5
to 5.5 hours daily) is required, with occasional lifting/carrying
over 100 lbs. Driving is occasionally required for this role to
travel to different sites. Reaching above shoulder level (0.25 to
2.5 hours daily) and bending/stooping (0.25 to 2.5 hours daily) are
required. Pushing/pulling is occasionally required. Fine
manipulation is required frequently (2.5 to 5.5 hours daily). The
